Did you ever stop to think who creates those stunning special effects you see in the movies, like the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park? They're the work of computer animators. Computer animators are also responsible for the cartoons you see. If you like the thought of taking an idea from the storyboard to the big screen, this could be the career for you.
Computer Animation Schools train students in the art and science of animation. Students learn about audio and video, and learn to control the computers that generate animations. Graduates of these programs can seek positions as special effects artists, game animators, or bench animators.

The following schools offer training in Computer Animation:
American Career Institute offers several certificate programs that can help you start or advance your animation career. Available certificates include Digital Gaming Design, Digital Graphics and Web Design and Special Effects Designer. Program graduates have a portfolio of their work they can use when seeking employment.
The Art Institute of Pittsburgh - Online Division helps students develop their creative and technical skills in the Media Arts & Animation program. Beginning with basic art and design training, students develop their 2D and 3D skills, and learn audio and video techniques. Throughout the program, they develop portfolios that can be used after graduation to find entry-level positions in the motion picture and video industries.
The Career Institute of American International College teaches motion graphics and video effects editing in its 3D and Game Designer certificate program. As part of the school's Digital Media certificate series, students can choose from programs that teach digital 3D animation, audio video editing and production, and the art of creating video effects.
The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University offers an intensive nine month program in digital animation. Students use Alias/Wavefront Maya software to create 3D animations, scenes, and models. The program's emphasis on the real-world application of animation skills is reflected in each student's preparation of a short demo reel that can be used as part of the graduate's portfolio.
Digital Media Arts College uses instructors with industry experience, along with equipment that is state of the art in its 3 year Bachelor of Fine Arts in Computer Animation, and its 1 1/2 year Master in Fine Arts in Special Effects Animation. The bachelor program covers 2D and 3D animation techniques, character modeling and animation, and techniques in lighting and texturing. The Master's program includes courses in advanced 3D modeling and animation, Maya Special F/X, and motion capture.
The International Academy of Design and Technology offers a bachelor degree in computer animation. Students learn the basics of storyboarding, drawing and animation. In the lab, students use Silicon Graphics workstations and SoftImage or Alias/Wavefront software to create animations to add to their portfolios. Additional courses include game design.
Westwood College Bachelor degree in Animation provides both creative and management training that can lead to a challenging career as an animator. Students learn to create complete animation projects, from line drawing to the final audio and visual effects. With courses in problem solving, communications, and management, they develop the skills necessary to manage animation projects from start to finish.
